Monumental cemetery (Cimitero Monumentale)

The first drawings and designs for the new cemetery presented by Vantini are dated 1845, but it is in February 1853 that the architect's work, presented to the Municipality of Salò in three large tables and in 17 sheets for details, is taken in consideration and approved.

The project leads to an unusual typology: a stepped cemetery interspersed with three staircases, a kind of terraced garden on the top of which is a chapel with a balcony.

Rodolfo Vantini uses the natural landscape as a backdrop, creating a neoclassical-picturesque style as a whole, especially as a feeling towards the memory of the dead, and it is the cemetery we see now.
